Look, I’ve been testing these little gadgets for years. From the first one that looked like a giant USB stick to the new 4K that has just come out. And every time someone asks me “which one should I buy?”, the answer depends on three things: what TV you have, what you want to watch and how much you’re willing to spend. So I put together this very personal ranking, from the one that convinces me least to the one I think is the best of all. No beating around the bush.

5. Fire TV Stick Lite: only if the budget rules

I’ll start with the most basic of all. The Lite is what the original Fire Stick was, but without TV control buttons on the remote. That, for me, is a headache. You end up with two remotes on the table and a tangle of cables I don’t even want to tell you about.

Who’s it for? A secondary TV, a guest room or someone who only wants YouTube and Prime Video without complications. It does the job. But given the price difference, I’d go straight to the next one.

  • Pro: it’s the cheapest in the line.
  • Con: the remote doesn’t control the TV’s volume or power.
  • I recommend it if: your TV is HD and you don’t plan to replace it soon.

4. Fire TV Stick HD (the new one): the right balance

This is the one that replaced the basic Fire Stick and, honestly, it’s a quiet but real improvement. Faster than the Lite, with a remote that now includes TV control and a more compact design. It isn’t 4K, mind you, but if your TV is 1080p, why pay more?

For a quiet night in after work, Big IPTV Sports brings thousands of channels to your laptop or smart TV.

A quick aside here: lots of people buy the 4K without having a 4K TV. If that’s your case, this is the one for you. You save some money and you won’t notice the difference on screen.

3. Fire TV Cube: the most powerful and the most expensive

The Cube is a different animal. It has power to spare, a built-in speaker, works as a smart speaker and its voice control is in another league. It’s the one I’d give to someone who wants everything integrated and doesn’t mind spending more.

But let’s be honest: for the average user it’s too much. If your idea is to watch series sprawled on the couch, the Cube is like buying a truck to go buy bread. Powerful, yes, but unnecessary.

  • Pro: superior performance and voice response.
  • Con: the price, and it takes up more space next to the TV.
  • I recommend it if: you have a smart home ecosystem and want to control everything from there.

2. Fire TV Stick 4K Max: the fast one in the family

I’m fond of the Max. It has more memory and a better processor than the 4K, so navigation feels snappier. Wi-Fi 6, fast startups, apps that open instantly. If you watch a lot of streaming content and the system’s slowness bothers you, this is a jump you’ll notice.

The catch is the price. When you compare it with the new 4K, the difference isn’t always justified. It depends on the deal of the day, and that’s a bit frustrating, honestly.

1. Fire TV Stick 4K (2026): the new king of my ranking

And here’s number one. The just-released 4K struck me as a perfect fit: the thinner body, the redesigned remote, and on top of that USB-C power from the TV. Freeing up an outlet is a small detail that in practice you appreciate a lot.

The 4K picture with HDR looks very good, the Wi-Fi works reliably and the system doesn’t freeze. For its price, it’s a balance that’s hard to beat. If you ask me, this is the one I’d buy today.

That said, check your TV. If it’s 1080p, go for the HD. And if you have a 4K but a very low-end one, the Max will give you that extra speed the standard 4K doesn’t. Everything in its place.

A tip before you close the tab

Don’t get carried away by the most expensive model or the cheapest one. Think about your TV, your internet connection and how much you’ll use it. And another thing: always check the deals. These devices drop in price often, and that’s when the decision really changes.

Oh, and if you’re coming from an old model, you’ll notice the jump in speed a lot. It’s like changing your phone after four years: you can’t understand how you lived before.
