The new Fire TV Stick 4K has only just come out, but I already can’t stop wondering what’s next. This time, mixing in a bit of daydreaming, I’m going to seriously predict the evolution Amazon is likely to roll out heading into 2027.

First, as background: the slimmer body and redesigned remote in the 2026 model are still fresh in our minds. Support for power from the TV was also a quietly welcome point. But isn’t this still just the prologue? I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that way.

The seismic shift Vega OS will bring

The biggest topic is that Amazon is moving to its own OS, “Vega OS”. By breaking away from the Android-based Fire OS, people expect improvements in lightness and security. What concerns me here, though, is compatibility with existing Android apps. As of the 2026 Firestick it isn’t a complete transition yet, but I think it’s highly likely that in 2027 models from the mid-range down will switch to Vega OS one after another.

If that happens, the kind of fun people have had until now, like “installing APKs with Downloader”, may be restricted. How much of so-called jailbreak culture survives depends on how much freedom Vega OS allows. Honestly, opinions will be divided on this one.

The remote will evolve further

The remote got renewed in the 2026 model, but for 2027 I predict better accuracy for the “find” feature and stronger AI voice recognition. In particular, voice commands that cross multiple devices, for example “continue on Fire TV the thing I was watching on Netflix yesterday”, might work naturally.

To keep up with live sports and your favourite shows while you are away from home, IPTV Champions is an easy option.

Also, what I’m personally hoping for is a remote with solar charging or fast USB-C charging. I really want to be freed from the stress of dead batteries.

AI-driven personalization and changes to advertising

When you say Amazon, you say Alexa. The Fire TV Stick already has AI recommendations built in, but in 2027 we should get scarily accurate suggestions that combine “viewing history × purchase history”. If you got a notification while choosing a movie saying “that snack you bought last week goes perfectly with this movie”, there’d be no escape.

On the other hand, the share of advertising will probably increase too. More free content is welcome, but I’d rather the home screen didn’t become all ads. I hope they leave room for users to adjust this in the settings.

My predictions for the 2027 lineup

As a realistic line, I predict a lineup like this.

  • Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (tentative): Vega OS, Wi-Fi 6E support, enhanced AI voice
  • Fire TV Stick 8K: it may still be premature, but rumors of a high-end release persist
  • Next-generation Fire TV Cube: further integration of smart home hub features, deeper Matter support
  • A gaming-focused stick: a model whose selling point is reduced lag in cloud gaming

The gaming route in particular is interesting. There’s already integration with Luna, so it wouldn’t be strange for a dedicated stick to come out. A bundled controller for around 10,000-something yen? The possibilities are exciting.

What I’m most curious about

To be frank, I’m hoping for “subtle usability improvements” more than spec upgrades. For example, how quickly it wakes from sleep, how stable the remote pairing is and how consistent the UI is after updates. These points improved steadily in the 2026 model too, so in 2027 they should get even more polished.

Also, it’s about time the HDMI extender cable came bundled as standard. Lots of people have tight space behind their TV, right?

Not a summary, but a look ahead

The Fire TV Stick is trying to evolve from “cheap and works okay” to “the smart, comfortable center of the living room”. Will the move to Vega OS succeed, will AI really be useful, and how will it balance advertising? 2027 looks set to be the year we find out the answers.

Wavering over “should I upgrade?” every time a new model comes out is a blogger’s nature. But imagining future features while using your current device is fun in its own way too.
