Recently my friends and I got really into talking about “what do you think the next Fire TV Stick will be like?”. As everyone knows, the 2026 model got a slimmer body and a new remote. But what comes after that? Personally, I think it’s in a transition from just a “machine for watching videos” to “a device at the center of the home”. This time, mixing in a bit of daydreaming, I want to talk seriously about my vision of the Fire TV Stick’s future heading into 2027.

The “obvious” evolution extending from the 2026 model

First, as background, the 2026 Fire TV Stick 4K is very polished. It can now be powered from the TV’s USB port, and the remote is easier to use. So the 2027 model should focus less on dramatic change and more on “subtle but effective” improvements.

  • Further power savings and heat management: a design where the device doesn’t get hot even during long 4K streaming sessions. Peace of mind even in the living room in summer.
  • Wi-Fi 7 support: it depends on how widespread routers become, but there’s a high chance they’ll add support with an eye on 8K streaming and cloud gaming.
  • Storage expansion or cloud integration: good news for people who install lots of apps. External storage support might make a comeback?

These are “it’d be nice to have” level, but they’re also areas where steady progress has been building since the 2025 model. Amazon tends to prioritize practicality over flashiness, so I don’t think it’ll stray from this path.

The full rollout of Vega OS holds the key

Looking at overseas information, there’s talk here and there that Amazon is preparing to extend its own OS, “Vega OS”, across the Fire TV series. There’s no official announcement yet, so I can’t say for sure, but if it’s true, 2027 may be that transition period.

What changes when it runs Vega OS? Personally, what I’m most hoping for is stronger privacy controls. With the current Fire TV, there are moments when I think “hmm, that’s a bit concerning” about how viewing history and voice data are handled. With Vega OS, data may be processed more locally, or a physical microphone switch might come as standard. It’s subtle, but precisely because it’s a device the whole family uses, it’s an important point.

Also, I want to keep an eye on what happens to app compatibility. Once it’s no longer Android-based, the “trick” ways of using it until now may no longer be possible. Opinions will probably be divided on that.

Gaming, smart home and the evolution of “watching while doing other things”

The Fire TV Stick is no longer just a video machine. As cloud gaming support advances, simply connecting a controller will turn the TV into a game console. In fact, some game services already work as of 2026, but in 2027 I think “gaming on a Fire TV Stick” is becoming normal.

If you miss the TV from home, Canal IPTV lets you watch your usual channels from anywhere.

Smart home integration is interesting too. Combined with Echo devices, controlling the lights and temperature throughout the house by voice while watching TV will become more natural. In particular, I think the division of roles with the Fire TV Cube will become clearer. The Cube as “the home’s hub”, the Stick “for private rooms and secondary TVs”.

And we can’t overlook the evolution of “watching while doing other things”. A feature that shows the weather, news or security camera footage small in part of the screen. That’s quietly handy. In 2027 it may become more customizable, so you can build your own information dashboard.

Where are prices and subscriptions heading?

Honestly, that’s what I’m most curious about. Part of why the Fire TV Stick spread is because it’s cheap. But Amazon seems to be aiming for revenue from services like Prime Video and Alexa+ rather than profiting from the device alone. In 2027, the model of “cheap device, but some features are subscription” could advance further. For example, advanced voice assistance or a time-limited free tier for cloud gaming.

As a user I have mixed feelings, but considering development costs, it’s partly unavoidable. The important thing is to show clearly “what’s free and what’s paid”. If they make that vague, they’ll lose the fans they worked hard to win.

Summary: don’t expect too much, but get excited

The 2027 Fire TV Stick will probably be a year of “maturing” rather than “revolution”. Rather than flashy new features, it’ll polish today’s usability and gradually broaden privacy, gaming and smart home integration. That’s the picture I have.

Personally, I’m watching where Vega OS goes, Wi-Fi 7 support and the evolution of “watching while doing other things”. If a 2027 model comes out, I’d love to talk about it with my friends again. What kind of future are you all hoping for? Let me know if you like.
